Wedding insurance is not high on people’s list when it comes to your wedding planning and preparation. Here’s why it should be:
As we all know, weddings are a massive financial undertaking. Some couples even need to take out personal loans to cover expenses leading up to the big day. And of course, the more extravagant the wedding, the more costly it is bound to be. The very last thing you want to happen is for something to go wrong, leading up to, or indeed on the big day itself.
There are several issues which may arise, through no fault of your own, which you will be powerless to stop. For example, one of your suppliers goes out of business – just shuts the doors one day and disappears. Where does that leave you, having paid over a deposit, and maybe a small amount here and there, when you could? Without an insurance policy, you are left out in the cold, and out of pocket. You may have to go through the whole process again, finding a supplier, laying down a deposit etc. And that is if you have the time to do it, i.e. not too close to the wedding date.
Or perhaps you have arranged something a bit more unique for your wedding, perhaps something like a marquee. A marquee is a great idea as an alternative to a traditional wedding venue, such as a hotel. You can be a lot freer with your customisation options with your marquee, but there is always a risk factor to be taken into consideration also. Luckily, some insurance companies have a special marquee insurance as part of the overall wedding insurance package. This also covers weddings in a home, or gazebo.
Another style of wedding where insurance is absolutely vital are weddings abroad. This is often overlooked, and a lot of people thing that travel insurance is enough cover for their wedding. This is not so. Many companies offer special overseas wedding cover that will cover you in almost any scenario.
Finally, it is very important to note that, having taken out your wedding insurance policy, if the cost of the wedding happens to change (as it will sometimes), ensure that you make it known to the insurance company without delay. This could mean the difference between being totally covered, or only partially covered.
These are some of the main reasons why having wedding insurance for your big day is vital.
